POINTS AND MOTIONS

EXPLAINED

If you have ever participated in a MUN conference before, you would often hear the chair asking “Are there any points or motions on the floor?” when no delegates are speaking, or more specifically, when the floor is open.

Simply put, points are questions and concerns while motions are proposals move the debate. There are many types of points and motions a delegate can raise, while this is true, the chair holds full rights to decline any points or motions they deem unnecessary.

Points are usually addressed immediately whereas multiple motions can be raised at the same time to be voted upon, they pass with a simple majority vote.
